Post by gsontheimer »

Does anyone have the version 12.0? How is it different from Version 9.01?

I have the G1000 PC Trainer, but mine is for a Cessna 182. I wonder what kind of difference I can expect on the DA40 version. Should I get the DA40, or is it exactly the same thing?

Depends, what you want to do with it. The DA40 Simulator looks like the DA40 software, the C172 Simulator looks like the C172 NAVIII G1000. There are some differences.

The DA40 Version 9.01 was pretty close to the real thing, this is why I wonder what has changed in 12.0.

The sim version 9.01 was G1000 software version 321.18, which I believe was identlcal to the 321.19 version that was released for the DA40. I'm not sure what the "new" 12.0 sim version has - I haven't seen that one - but apparently it's a later version of the real G1000 software (maybe the 321.22 version, or maybe the next release that is due out 'any day now'...)

Yes, it is for both models: the "DA40" and "DA40F" (fixed pitch version of the DA40 with carbureted engine)

I bought Version 12.0 of the Diamond DA40 Simulator, so I now can answer my own question, with which I started the thread. Anyone interested in the answers?

The simulator is based on the Software Version 0321.ZF. It is a software that has yet to be released for the real thing. Main changes I can see so far:

1. DA40 Diamond Star with Electronic Stability and Protection, ESP (like with Cirrus Perspective)
2. PFD has a new bank scale with 45° and 55° double markers
3. MAP page has the option to switch on a profile view at the bottom of the screen
4. WPT Page has added a INFO-2 page with the Airport Directory Data not currently available on DA40
5. AUX System Setup has 2 pages now. Fuel (GAL) and Weight (LB) is still not configueably, unfortunately.
6. Checklists are back
7. There is a AUX Telephone page for the Garmin GSR 56 datalink receiver (worldwide weather with Iridium data, SMS and telephone service). Expensive but cool.
8. MFD Databases are copied internally into a folder. A newer second set of NAV data is copied as a standby copy in the folder and activated when time is due. A SD Card is only needed for Charts in the MFD lower slot

These are the most noticeable differences.

Interesting find. Now if only Diamond would release the new version of DA40 G1000 software. Hopefully they won't make you purchase a new DA40 NG or DA40 XLT model to get the updated software.

If the latest new DA40 software will be Version 12, we still can't fly WAAS LP (as opposed to LPV) approaches, since that apparently requires Version 13 software: see http://garmin.blogs.com/my_weblog/2013/ ... book-.html. There are multiple LP approaches now available near us that we can't fly with a WAAS-equipped DA40, despite LP approaches now being included in the Jepp NavData database updates.

Separately, the most recent version of the DA42NG G1000 Pilot's Guide (DA42NG w/Sys SW 0670.09, dated 6/15/12 with V12) also seems to include all of the same new features you've noted (as well as Garmin GWX 68 radar, which wouldn't fit in the DA40 nose very well :D ).

This DA42NG G1000 Pilot's Guide also includes Garmin's Electronic Stability and Protection (ESP). I wonder if the DA42-VI now comes standard with this?

The software ist dated 2011. It is 2 years old. And Diamond is about to shut down their London Ontario operation. I doubt, we will ever see the "new" version.

Yes, this is pretty sad that Diamond is so far behind on G1000 software updates.

Especially since they were the original launch customer for the G1000 in 2004, and for G1000 Synthetic Vision in 2008. :(
