Specifically, the anti-glare coating of my 530W is deteriorating. Some, I think is due to folks putting their grubby fingernails on the screen, but it's giving up the ghost around the edges. The 430W is holding up fine.

I was wondering if anyone has tried out 3rd-party antiglare film on these units. It's, of course, not a touch screen.

I purchased a couple of large anti-glare protective sheets and cut them to size for the G1000 MFD and PFD. They have been in place for 350 hours of tach time and work well. Aircraft Spruce sells custom cuts http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/a ... ctors9.php but you can get 8x10 sheets from many sources and cut them to size.

Here is a 3-pack for $8.00 at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Nue-Design-Cases- ... are+sheets Not 8x10 but otherwise looks like the same specs as what I purchased. You can't tell they are in place unless you look carefully at the edge of the screens.

Thanks. Good to know they work OK. The Aircraft Spruce page for this product is interesting. The picture shows application to a GNS530, but that model is not available in the drop-down. Go figure.

Tried the thing from Amazon. What they shipped was a screen protector but has no real anti-glare properties. I found that Sporty's has the protector/anti-glare deal for the 530. This works pretty well. In theory one shouldn't need a protector, as the 530 is not a touch screen. But the fingernail marks on the screen suggest otherwise

Bad news on the Amazon product. Mine was anti-glare but that was few years ago. I notice that the product image they are now showing now doesn't say "anti-glare" even though the product description still does.

So our MFD is looking really rough after 15 years.

I have a few questions.

Can the original film be removed/replaced?

Does Garmin have any "approved" fixes other than a PFD/MFD swap?

Do you have a preferred screen protector film?

For my 530W I gave up and shipped it off to Garmin for rework. It came back excellent, but for ~1.5 kilobucks.
