Thanks Rich, I should have known that (yours is an 02)! So I would assume the previous posters who say "it fits fine" was due to mounting location. I'll be curious what Greg does with his...

If I were doing it now I'd be more inclined to install a Garmin 335 or 345. They are a bit shorter than the KT74 and might fit without any hassle. The fabrication/installation of a custom canted support by American Avionics plus installation of an airspeed-based squat switch emulator cost me an extra 1.3 Aviation Bucks (aka $1,300.00). Presumably the GTX units could leverage GS from the 530W to automatically switch between GND and, er, not-GND mode.

I'll ping Greg and see what he's been thinking. He seems to have lots of Verizon-bucks :)

Where is your 345 mounted? Is it in the center stack or over on the right side?

Do you have autopilot?

Here's what I postulate.

These newer transponders are a problem easily replacing the GTX 327 unless:

1. The existing 327 is in the center stack. This was often done in DA40's without an autopilot and could be done where the 530/430 combo was not installed. There are no clearance issues in this situation.
OR
2. Serial numbers pre-200, which where the instrument panel was lower. It was redesigned as production shifted to Canada, recessing the circuit breakers below the panel and, in the process raising the lower edge of the panel.

Otherwise the mounting tray needs to protrude at least a bit out from the panel. It's possible in some cases it's not noticeable.

Take a look at the GDL82 that was just announced by Garmin.
