DA40 NG... "Voter" switch
Anyone know why, in the NG, the "Voter" switch is called a "Voter" switch?
I'd like to know the technical reason behind that name.
Cheers,
Maddog

Just a guess: because you can vote for [ A | AUTO | B ] ? I might be "German" English...

Re: DA40 NG... "Voter" switch
Exactly as it says, allows you to vote (decide) which ECU to use A or B.
Difference from the TAE is that the TAE system is defaulted to A and the switch only allows you to force it to operate on B.

In engines AE system itself ensures that the EECU A have the same time EECU B
Re: DA40 NG... "Voter" switch
The term is actually not an invention by Diamond, but possibly an adaptation. The term 'Voting Circuit' is used to describe a system whereby e.g. several sensors monitor a process, and then 'vote' on the outcome, i.e. the majority decides if say two out of three sensors have the same result /measurement.
So the voter / voting system (my interpretation) is actually the system which decides which ECU to use based on their respective hours used, and the switch allows you to override it for test purposes.

Thanks, EKRK! Sounds like the explanation the OP asked for and which we were not able to give.

And we have a winner. Well done EKRK.EKRK wrote:The term is actually not an invention by Diamond, but possibly an adaptation. The training manual states:-
"A logical circuit, which is hereinafter called Voter, detects in cooperation with the ECU modules, the active ECU module. The Voter is autonomously switching to the detected module within the automatic mode. The pilot, however, is able to overrule this procedure by a manually switching between the modules."
Re: DA40 NG... "Voter" switch
Hello. Can anyone please tell me, why the voter switch must be selected to AUTO for flight operations?

If you override the voter where the FADEC itself decides which ECU to run on, you lose automatic recovery - that is if the ECU you have selected fails, the engine will die (despite the other ECU being perfectly capable of running the engine if it were allowed to take control such as if the switch were left in "auto").
