DA42-VI vs DA62 Performance

Post by scguest »

Team,
Now that a few people are flying the DA62 (I sat on one at the AOPA fly-in, very nice) how would you characterize its cruise performance or can you communicate some POH values to me? I don't have a DA42-VI POH but was told the NG POH still applies (though that don't make sense since they say the VI had lots of speed improvements).
Anyway, I am interested in some numbers at ISA 8000 ft and 10000 ft at MTOW and MCP.
The book I have (DA42NG at 4400#) says: 176 KTAS at 8000' and 179 KTAS at 10000'.
I'd like confirmation and I'd like DA62 numbers as well.
Thanks.
Best regards,
Jeff

Here's the DA62 AFM/POH; Diamond is nice enough to make all of their documentation available for free:

I just took delivery of my new DA62 this week, so it's too early for me to make direct comparisons. According to the AFMs, the DA62 may be about 6 knots faster than the DA42-VI up to about 12,000 feet. (Above that altitude the DA62 turbocharged engines above their critical altitude can't make any more power than the engines of the lighter DA42). Our DA42-VI routinely flew about 4 knots faster than AFM/POH published book speeds.

Hello All
I picked up my DA62 May 17. I'm new to Diamond. I have put 25hrs on it. I cannot say how it compares to the DA42. Here are a couple pictures of the speeds and engine setting's. I came out of a 414A so when I fueled up on my last trip I loved seeing 62gals opposed to 185gals that it took in the 414A. I love it so far.

Which color would you like? We can now order custom colors, too. The gold N62DV is mine :)

Here are a few more pics of our DA62 on the day we picked it up from the Diamond Canada factory:

I would like the blue one.

Did you get the little seat in the back and bump your insurance up for seven occupants? Did you get a removable stick for the right seat?

1000nxi looks amazing. I think the Stratus belong in the luggage area with it's own USB port, but I like those sort of things to be out of sight.

Congrats on your new plane. Your plane looks beautiful. Speaking of the custom colors, I think I would go with the bight blue as it matches my sports car perfectly. Can see you were cruising at 177 TAS from your cockpit photo. Nice!

Dave, you got your DA62! I'm excited, because mine is next - the graphite gray (Anthracite) one on the other side of yours. Still waiting on the FAA paperwork.

Thanks for the info. Is there also a recent POH about the DA42-VI specifically available? Jeff
