I was flying the other day with my CFI and had a strange issue/ noise and I'm not sure if this is engine related or prop. (DA-20 A-1)
At 90 kts descending for a straight in approach, we brought the power back to idle (engine wouldn't go to idle though) and the prop was at 2400 rpm. With the throttle all the way back the MP would not go below 15" of manifold pressure.
According to the CFI I was flying with it sounded like it was going into a beta range, with a low pitch whir. It was a strange sound I haven't heard before.
Engine oil was normal and the prop seems to cycle fine.
Any ideas what this noise or throttle issue could be?
Thanks

Re: Constant speed prop problem?
This is an A-1 and has a Hoffman prop, which is not fixed pitch.
