Powerbank as backup battery?

Post by Guest »

Hi,

Perhaps a silly thought, but could external power bank (e.g. 20 000mAh) somehow be used as a additional backup battery on DA40 with G1000?

Generally you can't modify a certified aircraft in that fashion without going through a complete Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) process with the FAA that often takes years.

For DA40s with cigarette lighter outlets in the panel, temporarily running power into the panel through the outlet also probably wouldn't work since the G1000 draws more than 2A at 28V (the typical size of the outlet circuit breaker), the wiring may be undersized for higher current draws, and there may be a diode to prevent reverse current flows.
