Anyone install a GDL-82 in a DA-20 yet?

Post by soarer20 »

Has anyone with a DA-20 installed the GDL-82 and can advise on the best location to mount the box?

I would like to mount it under the transponder but it would necessitate a mounting bracket. A friend of mine is an A&P and said that a mounting bracket can't be fabricated for certified aircraft...

If you could post a photo of your install location that would help.

Nick: You might want to get a second opinion on that...

Looking at your photos, it appears you might have room to mount an additional avionics rack (for any rack-mounted radio) below your transponder. They are available fairly cheap on eBay. Then you could mount the GDL82 to that and run the cables out the back. No need to create a panel opening.

Or, you could mount it under the pilot's seat, as I did in my DA40:
