The position of the rudder trim knob is meaningless, since a centered knob does not necessarily mean a centered rudder trim tab -- due to variability in cable adjustment during and after assembly. When I owned a DA42 I had the knob re-set so that a centered knob equalled a centered trim tab.

A better judge is whether the actual trim tab on the rudder is centered or not.
