MSB-E4-034 High Pressure Fuel Pump driving gear

Post by jc7204 »

For those who have not seen the new mandatory service bulletin from Diamond / Austro. Quite a few effected engines (S/N's) including mine (delivered in April).

Thank you Joe, I hadn't seen this. Sure enough my NG (also delivered April) is caught up by this.... and I've sailed past 40hrs flight time as well!!!

My engine was affected and I had my pump replaced. It took about 3-4 days. Warranty covered all the expenses. Some people have had trouble getting the new pumps - they have had a backlog.

Thanks Marco, useful to have an idea of fix time. reading the MSB it looks like a fairly deep intervention (to my none mechanical brain).
My local base/shop ( who are super accommodating rockstars) are querying Diamond if they can be authorized to do the work, airframe is grounded now as I have flown well through the 40 hours and this is a potential catastrophic failure item.
Back up plan is to use the neighboring Diamond shop on our field (relations between mine (new) and incumbent FBO aren't that great so we will see on that.) In fact dueling FBO's would make for a good stand alone thread, our sketch here has enough laughable fodder to make a B rate comedy movie a la Pushing Tin or some such lolololol

The effective date of the SB is 8/11/21 so I think you cn fly for an additional month or 40 flight hours after 8/11 until you are grounded.

I think this is the 3rd time in almost 2 years of ownership I've had to look through a list of serial numbers to look for my engine. Diamond needs a better, more proactive way to notify owners of these critical SBs. I'm loving my plane but being a long way from an authorized service center has me rethinking my choice. Hopefully Lifestyle Aviation will be expanding the service options in the west.

Interestingly, this MSB does not apply to my left engine (#83), but does apply to my right (#92).

We got a brand new plane and the engine is affected as well. Our local authority sent us the notice, as well as the EASA EAD ( https://ad.easa.europa.eu/ad/2021-0191-E ). Since we have a single engine airplane we are grounded for now… let’s see how fast the spare parts are available and how the maintenance is arranged.

Scott, can you get this work done at Arlin's in Bozeman? Not too far away and plenty of NG experience. Maybe if they are not an authorized service center, Diamond can let them do this specific SB and cover it.

Fortunately my engine is not affected, but thanks for recommendation regarding Arlin's. I'll check them out.

Apologies when I read this above, I thought it was referring to the oil pump. We had that replaced earlier this year.

Has anyone had the fuel pump gear replaced. Curious as to how long it took, and if Austro has parts in stock?

Another major AD!
