EGT Question

Post by AndrewM »

Normally EGT and CHT's are very stable across all cylinders. Last two flights I have noticed cylinder #1 EGT is much higher than the others, also during ground operations. Having said this, there has also been some variability with cylinder 1 EGT temps, in that at one point it will be higher than the others, then checking later it will be more aligned.

CHT's always very similar across all cylinders.

Any advice or reasons this may be occurring?

Recently I had the same experience, even forcing me to an unplanned landing. I was lucky to find a mechanic at the airport I landed who obviously was a true expert. He tightned the screws of the intake manifold and ever since the problem was solved. According to his explanation even slightly loose screws might lead to sucking of some air resulting in improper firing in the cylinder concerned. Maybe worth checking.

Andrew, check out this post:

If it was a clogged injector, you'd likely see a higher CHT, which yours doesn't show. More likely the EGT probe connection or wire problem. Addendum to my link post--ultimately I did have to replace the affected probe/wire in question and problem cured forever.
