Join Beechtalk. Really.
That is a gorgeous plane. I loved the G36 I did a demo flight in. (Later the same plane crashed out of KHHR doing a demo flight, no idea if it was the same salesman.) So solid. Really an unbelievable difference between it and the Piper Warriors I was training in. My boys loved the looks of the club seating. The price stopped me, so I am glad it didn't stop you.
Life vests for anything over the water, please. I hope you have many amazing trips in it. I'll try to stop in at KEYE to see it in person.

Re: What comes after a DA40?
Well, if Cary joins BT, I will just have to see him over there.....
I joined BT back in 2010. It is hard to believe it was eight years ago that I looked into getting a Beech.

Thanks Colin. I've been on BT for more than 10 months (although only lurking and not writing) as I have been looking for a replacement for the DA42. Now that I have the BE35 I will clearly be more active on their site.
You will have to stop at KTYQ instead KEYE if you want to see the plane; and if you need it KTYQ has an ILS whereas KEYE does not. The FBO's are now owned by the same organization.

Re: What comes after a DA40?
I spent a lot of time thinking about what comes after my DA40 and my instrument rating and I thought it would be a DA42. After much research I decided to change my mission. I am nearly retired and can spend more time waiting for weather to complete my travel trips and would rather spend my money on my local flights. My wife and I love our DA40 and More than a DA40 will just cost enough to suck the fun out of flying.
I decided to by a WACO YMF 5C
A red one
Next, aerobatics.
It turns out my wife loves flying upside down

Re: What comes after a DA40?
Tim you are absolutely right. If you can make the DA40 somehow fit your mission (in your case, you can adapt the mission) then by all means this is the best allrounder around. I envy you for being able to fly aerobatics. I am certified for +1/-0g ... and that's on a good day with no garlic in the soup!

Re: What comes after a DA40?
This is what I got almost 10 years ago upon selling my 2003 DA40. This is a Mooney M20K rocket. I got a new paint job almost a year ago, and new leather interior - and also a new prop about 3 years ago.
They say Mooneys are hard to land, and like to float and porpoise and all that, and perhaps its true, but a relatively slick DA40 and its low wing is a good stepping stone for the flight characteristics of the M20 line. That said, it is a much faster airplane in all phases of flight so you need to be well trained and ready for the transition.
