Thanks for the manuals David. Everything looks very positive in them. Only disappointment is that I didn't see any reference to flight plan sharing. I really hope they support sharing flight plans between the G1000 and various pad based tools.

Hi Mark -

According to Trek Lawler (Garmin tech supervisor), flight plan sharing will require a FS210 as well.
Trek Lawler on BeechTalk wrote:(Q: "The 345 is supposed to be able to share plans with Garmin Pilot via Connext.")
No, not by itself will the GTX 345 do this. in order to transfer a flight plan you will need the FlightStream 210 as well.

I don't know for sure, but expect that adding the FS210 will require Diamond's cooperation.

Where can I see the dimensions of the boxes? If the 335 is a couple inches shorter than the GTX 330, this could make the installation considerably less expensive than my KT74 replacement for the GTX327 was. This is applicable to those older DA40's that have not yet converted and have the panel setup where the GTX 327 is over on the right side of the panel.

Can someone with a non-WAAS aircraft check their GDU/GIA revisions? This requires accessing "service mode" (which sounds scary, but is only actually scary if you change something.) ;)
Nir & I checked his 2007 XL today, running 321. 22. The GDU version is 9.15 & the GIA version is 5.82. This means that his non-WAAS aircraft will display traffic (but not weather) input on the PFD/MFD.

FYI, the process to access service mode on the G1000 is:
  1. Power-up master
  2. Pull PFD and MFD breakers
  3. While pressing & holding "Enter" on the PFD, close the PFD breaker
  4. Release "Enter" key when the initialization screen displays on the PFD
  5. Repeat items 3 & 4 for MFD
Just be *very* careful not to change any values! You can completely screw-up your G1000 configuration if you don't know what you are doing!

Here is the official story on the potential to add flight plan import/export using the GTX 345 and FS210 with the G1000:
Trek Lawler on BeechTalk wrote:The only OEM that has this feature now is Cirrus and they have the GDL 88 installed. As far as with the GTX 345 and flightstream in another G1000 platform no, this is not yet capable but being looked into for future implementation.

I sent an email to Garmin support asking about flight plan transfer thru the new GTX 345 transponder to G1000 flight deck. I figured since it will communicate data to the iPad like a Flight Stream 110, that a software update would allow it to do all the things a Flight Stream 210 could do. Sounds like it isn’t a planned upgrade. Currently you would also need to a Flight Stream 210. Bummer.
We appreciate your interest in the GTX 345R. However there are no plans to add the capability of flight plan transfers using the GTX 345. The ability to transfer flightplans will have to come via a more direct route to the MFD. As of today there have been no announcements of flightplan transfers using a bluetooth device for the Diamond aircraft. The flightplan transfer is a hot topic and We are always however working with our OEM partners to make the G1000 better so please stay tuned for future upgrades and product announcements by Garmin or the aircraft OEM.
