I have a tailwheel endorsement, in fact I flew a Piper Cub two weeks ago, though I would not consider myself particularly skilled at it. I do believe that experienced tailwheel pilots have more skill at flying difficult to control aircraft. I completely respect them for that; they can safely fly aircraft that I cannot. However it is my feeling that the tailwheel training did little to improve my proficiency in a DA20 or DA40.
I wonder if the author of the article mentioned can fly safely while figuring out how to delete and load and brief a new approach in the G1000 when 2 minutes from the IAF while in IMC because the airport decided to switch runways. That is true proficiency in a DA40.
