Flying Car

Post by Don »

Thanks to Elon Musk and SpaceX, I now own a car that flies too. :D Anyway, just posted for fun.
With that said, I wish electric propelled aircraft were further along as I would like to own one. But by the time they are I will probably be to old to fly.

It's okay, Don, by the time we are too old to fly the airplanes (and cars) will be doing it themselves.

Is your wife younger than you? Can you get a few more years in the sky from the right seat?

I'm afraid my Tesla may weigh too much for a Falcon Heavy to loft into a Mars orbit around the sun; I may have to settle for just a low earth orbit.

Heck...my wife's Tesla "S" model already has auto pilot but we have not tried it yet. That said, I don't think electric airplanes are more than a decade away. I believe there are already some experimental ones out there by Pipistrel Aircraft. My pilot wife is only a year younger than me so I can't rely on her to fly me around.

Yeah, the S model is quite heavy. I think it is at least 2000 pounds heavier than the Tesla roadster.

Don,

I like the side by side Tesla!
Did you ever compare the roadster versus the top of the line sedan in terms of performance?

The newer top of the line model S 100 PD goes 0-60 in 2.25 seconds when in "Ludicrous" mode. My 2008 roaster is one of the first cars Tesla ever built, SN# 466, and is slow by comparison, but still faster than most sport cars of the era at 0-60 in 3.9 seconds.
With that said, it seems even faster because you are sitting so low to the ground and there is no engine noise or gear shifting. Just pure torque. It red lines at 14,000 RPM. Tesla is introducing a new roadster in 2020. It has a 0-60 speed 1.9 seconds and a range of over 600 miles or 1000km. That will make it the faster production car ever produced. As I said earlier, it will be great when electric tech is available in aircraft. Think of flying with no engine vibration and no motor noise. I guess the closes we have for now is glider flying.
