I was over at my mechanic's hangar today to buy some oil change supplies. They're working on an annual for a Travel Air. There is an obscene number of screws to be removed (and eventually reinstalled) to open up all the stuff you need to for this exercise. And just for fun, many of them have nuts which are (on this particular plane at least) of various sizes. I watched as they tediously removed all the buggers that have to come off just to get the lower cowl off the engines so that all the plugs can be removed. And each inspection port has its own array of a dozen or more screws to extract.
BTW, this plane also has Electroair ignition with a probable faulty ignition wire or its related plug on one engine. It's unclear if it has the correct plugs for the Electroair, though they look to be correct. Still early in the process.
