While I would certainly welcome any less restrictions, prior to owning my DA40 I had owned a Piper Warrior, a Piper Lance, and an LSA (Czech SportCruiser). There was a huge difference between the 300 Hp, retractable gear, constant speed prop, 6-seat, 3600# gross Lance and the 100 Hp, fixed gear/prop, 2-seat, 1320# gross SportCruiser, so I’m betting that the real number that we hear will be 750 Kg, or 1650# to conform with European standards, but I hope I’m wrong.

3600lbs was the stated number.

Both infallible press sources... I'm going to contain my excitement until I hear it directly from the FAA. There is nothing light or sporty about 3600 pounds so that has me skeptical.
Oh, I think the press is likely correct. I also think it is possible, someone screwed up on some math...

Here are two interesting articles with some speculation:

The referenced articles are the first two articles at this link.

As indicated, if this is a real deal, then DA40s are likely to get more valuable. I certainly will not complain about that.
