Soon after posting the above, Garmin emailed this update blog out tonight. The information is not terribly new. Yet we, as a 127 owners, and counting, shall continue to ask DAI to provide a pathway for the entire fleet - so as to give owners options to access all of the advertised features mentioned in the link below:

Hi Scott, some thoughts...

1.) I think you are missing a lot of European DA40's + DA42's in your list... We need to find a way to have them join the petition as well.
2.) Resolving the topic, requires help from DAI.... We need to find the someone with an excellent personal relationship to DAI, that can have an educated discussion... especially as ownership has changed there

this will be a long journey... but we have to find a solution.. our planes will not fly with the same computers & displays from 2005 in 2030...

Great to hear from you Hans, as your ideas and comments are well taken!

As for your first suggestion - is there anyway to conduct a direct mailing for the European based Diamonds? Our forum brothers from across the pond might have all kinds of creative ideas and methods to reach these owners.

So far word of mouth, from owner to owner, has been fairly successful*. Hopefully this will continue in the weeks and months to come.

Regarding your point #2, wouldn't that be great!? As we really do need an owner (or two), with high level contacts at DAI, to be our official spokesman or representatives. Any and all volunteers, having these connections, would be most welcome!

Perhaps, in time, having one or two owners representing each continent from around the globe (sans Antarctica) might help with long term and unforeseen issues that will most likely crop up in the years to come. This is just one more reason for DAI to open up the lines of communication with their customer base, as it's mutually beneficial - if for no other reason than it creates goodwill and a spirit of cooperation.

* in fact it has already exceeded my expectations. Now if only we could clone owners like Emir and yourself, etc. . . So calling all owners, please do your best to spread the word and keep 'em coming!

Here's the link to the PETITION

Today we had the very first owner from the majestic continent of Africa sign the petition. Please join me in welcoming Steve (ZS-SDW)!

So far, owners from four, out of the seven, world continents have signed our petition. The only two realistic continents remaining are Asia and South America. Since as far as I know, Antarctica is completely out of the running.

Not including the United States, here is a quick recap of all the countries represented on the petition list:

COUNTRY CONTINENT
Australia 1 Oceania
Belgium 1 Europe
Canada 3 North America
Germany 6 Europe
Guernsey 1 Europe
Latvia 1 Europe
Netherlands 1 Europe
Portugal 1 Europe
South Africa 1 Africa
Sweden 1 Europe
Switzerland 2 Europe
Ukraine 2 Europe
United Kingdom 3 Europe

This thread has now been viewed over 10,000 times. And perhaps only half of that figure were by yours truly. . . . ;)

While there hasn't been any new sign-ups recently, this doesn't mean this effort has come to a grinding halt. Quite the contrary, as there is still plenty of behind the scenes activity taking place and it's all very encouraging. Once again I would like to thank John Weber of Continental Motors for his continued and incredibly helpful support.

Will report back when there is more concrete news to share. In the meantime, any owners still wishing to add their aircraft, please click HERE

I’m getting some responses from the European owners who I contacted and I expect few more entries in following days.

Hi Scott
A G1000 S/W upgrade would be highly appreciated. DAI never cared about his after sales service.
Thanks for the initiative.

Many thanks to all who have contributed to this feed on WAAS upgrade. My Diamond is also stuck as Non-WAAS. Please list me as interested in the effort to seek viable/reasonable option(s) for a WAAS upgrade. The FAA NextGen program for Performance Based Navigation is another impetus for seeking reasonable options for a WAAS upgrade.
