Neema: If I'm reading the newly released price sheet (March 2020) correctly, the price has been revised downwards by Diamond. The currently advertised figures for a legacy G1000 upgrade to NXi ($85,000), along with a KAP140 to GFC700 ($78,000) is $163,000. Please note the NXi has yet to be certified for several airframe / engine combinations (such as the DA42 TDI) and there might be some additional expenses on top of these*. Also, Diamond will base certification work only upon anticipated demand, which will likely include deposits up front and before certification work will be undertaken. Further forum discussions on this subject of NXi and WAAS upgrades should ideally be posted on the "The G1000 Project - The Next Step" thread and after the meeting on April 2nd with Diamond and Garmin. However, I did want to quickly provide a pricing update to the figures mentioned on the previous page (51).

In other news, owners are still requesting to be added to the G1000 petition. The latest to join are:
DA40 owner Tim (N233MA) and Tomasz with his Polish registered DA42. Both aircraft have KAP140 autopilots (as does mine).
Thanks to Tim and Tomasz!

As for current petition numbers, there are now:
172 total aircraft, 60 of which are DA42's - the majority** of which have KAP140's autopilots.

*Table 1: HIRF Box installation ($10,000) – depending on individual airframe characteristics (?)

**of course, not all owners reported their model of autopilot.

It turns out why Diamond (and Textron and others) are omitted from the AML for the after market discrete products like the G3X is because Garmin defers to the manufacturer of aircraft that are certified with G1000 on these items.

The key question is how to separate an airframe certified for "unlimited" life from avionics with a 10-15yr life? Owner's reps are well aware of this problem, as are Diamond and Garmin. It is a certification issue and won't be solved in the next six months, but make no mistake that it is on the agenda.

That's exactly the right question Russ. An STC could solve half the battle, but Garmin calibrates each TXi/G3X panel to each airframe if you stayed with their product line.

Ideally, any STC to split the airframe from avionics ideally does so without being tethered to only one alternative--i.e. the aircraft owner has the ability to shop the market for the brand and avionics of choice so long as operating limitations are displayed correctly

Follow the "Next Steps" thread. This larger strategic issue is going to be aired out eventually, but first we're trying to address more immediate needs.
