I believe we need some transparency on the pricing.

Definitely. Moreover, I don’t expect DAI to earn on parts in addition. If some box retails for $10k, I expect DAI to resell it at same price or lower because I’m sure they get it below MSRP. On top of that, they can and have to charge for labor but let’s see the numbers.

1) when Phase I aircraft upgrade to Phase II, Diamond retains the discontinued 63W boxes. Which DAI will then turnaround and sell to non-WAAS aircraft owners at previous production level pricing.
That's a bit rude - charging the new price for second-hand equipment! And obsolete equipment at that.

And $35K is a reasonable price for a NXi Phase II hardware upgrade: this includes a pair of GIA64Ws, GEA 71B, the new audio panel, and about a day's labor with no rewiring required.

But if I'm giving up my pair of GIA63Ws to Diamond (worth as much as $20K on the used market that I can't collect), the effective price of the NXi Phase I upgrade to NXi Phase II is $35K + $20K = $55K, and that's ridiculous for an aircraft only 2 years old.
Couldn't agree more. It ought to be the other way round. $35 - say $15 as trade in = $20K.

And believe me, in Australia they take the p155 even more and all the providers seem to multiply everything by two, so I imagine it will be even more expensive in Oz.

Has anyone challenged/queried Scott on this rather blatant overcharging?

We have not had the beginnings of a conversation yet with DAI. We sent a letter with our positions and concerns, this is the first response.

First of all many thanks to those who took the time to create the petition, write to diamond and follow up on this topic.

Their answer is a step in the right direction.

Two quick questions :
- is the offer and are the prices valid in Europe as well ?
- for the GIA63W upgrade offered, is it done through the Urbe STC or is there another route ?

Best,
Salim

Hello all

I just sent an email to DAI service department to ask about reserving a GIA63W upgrade and if my authorized Diamond Service Center may do the work. I will keep you posted.

Yes, they are available in Europe. You should contact the maintenance center in Austria for details.

I was hoping that the statement:

"Of note, Diamond has committed to working with Garmin to provide a further software update to DA40-180 customers in order to support seamless integration of the available ADSB solution from Garmin".

...meant we would get WX from ADS-B on the MFD of legacy KAP140 Non WAAS DA40s.

I presume if I upgrade to the WAAS GIA63W I can finally get WX on the MFD - can anyone confirm that?

Thanks

To get ADS-B weather from your GTX345R to display on the DA40-180 MFD requires software version 0321.23. And this software requires WAAS GIA63W hardware.

But Diamond's statement might not mean "WX from ADS-B on the MFD of legacy KAP140 Non WAAS DA40s" -- instead, I would interpret it to mean that DA40 G1000 software would no longer need to be "patched" with a laptop to install a GTX345R; i.e., the GTX345R would be included as an option in the standard G1000 SD card software installer in a "further software update to DA40-180." That's what they mean by "seamless integration."
