You Know You're a Diamond Pilot When ...

Post by Steven »

You've learned how to recharge the battery in your DA40 after popping the 25A ESS TIE breaker ...

You've tried to figure out a way to attach a rope to the nosewheel to straighten it after takeoff ...

You've been to the motorcycle store to buy a Yuasa battery for your DA20 ...

You've discovered a dead battery after performing the pilot's side reading light trick ...

You've covered your air vent intakes with glider tape to reduce the cabin noise ...

Any others?

You have to pay for expensive special ground shipping of your DA40 or DA42's lithium-ion backup battery (must be replaced every 2 years at annual) because it's too dangerous to be flown in an aircraft...

Your mechanic has to go out to the trunk of his car to get his metric tools to work on your plane...

Your DA20-A1 gets orphaned.
Your steam gauge DA40-180 gets orphaned.
Your G1000 DA40-180 avionics get orphaned.
Your "fill in the blank" Diamond gets orphaned.

Loved my Diamonds but I'm so glad to be in the experimental world now.

Flame suit on.

This is of no real consequence. I've been able to get parts and upgrade stuff whether it requires Diamond support or not.

You need a flash light to see the runway when landing your DA42 at night.

Such a negative thread ...

You know you're a Diamond pilot when ...

- you write the check for a $2M smooth insurance policy on a DA-40 and it covers more and costs less than your automobile insurance.
- flying a stick with full frame avionics is both fun and safe.
- everyone who gets into the plane is wowed by it and enjoys the experience.
- you spend your weekend at the hanger checking out other people's planes and thinking "I wouldn't want to fly that (again!)"
- and, yes, all of the other negative annoyances (but, truly, they all seem better than what I've seen elsewhere).
