Corona Sim - Aspen IMC 1-Departure & Hold

Continuing our simulator adventures while sheltering, we do some instrument work -- as suggested by Carlo Felicione and admittedly much needed on my part -- while in IMC around Aspen CO (KASE). In this part 1 video we fly an instrument departure northwest bound and an ad-hoc hold, to be followed in subsequent videos with a localizer approach with published missed, and a GPS approach to land. My first time e-flying a DA62… a learning experience in a very cool aircraft. I’m sincerely keen to gather your comments on areas for improvement.

Thanks for your insight and enjoy the video!

Nice video Wayne! Nice scenary and aircraft rendering - X-Plane 11 looks good!

(I see you're "cheating"? - "green" AP! - only kidding! :) )

John, thanks for watching... and having now e-flown the DA62, I'm super envious of your awesome aircraft!
All the best,
Wayne

Sorry to say, it's not getting any use here in MI right now - I'm glad I flew on Sunday.

Monday afternoon our governor ordered "stay home" for anything but "essential" travel!

A buddy of mine was supposed to take his Instrument check ride Tuesday.
DPE cancelled it just after governor's order - "non-essential"!! My friend was very "bummed"!

FYI - I'm sending you a PM in a few minutes

Wayne: FYI, the Legacy G1000 (not NXi) you're flying (if a real DA62) runs GDU 15 software that includes user-defined holding patterns that can be autopilot-coupled. So you didn't have to fly the hold "old school" by setting the inbound course manually. It would be interesting to see if the X-Plane G1000 sim includes user-defined holds. I look forward to parts 2 and 3 of the video.

Dave, I was guessing that the real DA62 might have user-defined holds (I've used them in a friend's SR22T)... when I was running the sim I was a bit lazy to check it out. What's the G1000 command sequence to set the user-defined hold?... I'll then check to see if the Aerobask DA62 has them... although I'm guessing not, because even Autopilot VNV doesn't work in any X-Plane G1000 I've used thusfar.
Thanks for the insight and thanks for watching (working on part 2 as we e-speak),
Wayne

Wayne: Here are the steps to input a user-defined holding pattern based on a Waypoint (user-defined or in the database). You can also define a hold based on your current position.

Creating a user-defined hold at an active flight plan waypoint:
1) Press the FPL Key to display the ‘FPL - Active Flight Plan’ Page (MFD) or the active ‘Flight Plan’ Window (PFD).
2) Press the FMS Knob to activate the cursor (not required on the PFD) and turn the large FMS Knob to highlight the waypoint for the hold.
3) Press the MENU Key, highlight ‘Hold At Waypoint’, and press the ENT Key. The ‘Hold at’ Window appears with the ‘Course’ Field highlighted.
4) Use the FMS Knobs to edit the entry course, and press the ENT Key.
5) Use the small FMS Knob to select ‘Inbound’ or ‘Outbound’ course direction, and press the ENT Key.
6) Use the small FMS Knob to select ‘Time’ or ‘Distance’ length mode, and press the ENT Key.
7) Use the FMS Knobs to edit the length, and press the ENT Key.
8) Use the small FMS Knob to select ‘Right’ or ‘Left’ turn direction, and press the ENT Key.
9) Use the FMS Knobs to edit the Expect Further Clearance Time (EFC Time), and press the ENT Key.
10) Press the ENT Key while ‘Load?’ is highlighted to insert the hold into the flight plan.

Dave, thanks for the solid Hold at Waypoint instructions... I just confirmed that the function is not available in X-Plane 11.41 in either the C172/G1000 or the DA62.
Other than that and no Autopilot VNV, the DA62 in X-Plane is quite sweet.
All the best,
Wayne
