AOG in Cleveland at Burke Lakefront KBKL

Post by Colin »

A tiny tiny white wire snapped off the spade plug connect of the starter solenoid. I re-stripped it with my Leatherman, but I couldn't figure out how to get it back onto the spade and re-crimped. So these guys are meant to take a look tomorrow morning:

Unless someone else has a Friday-evening A&P guy that want to go to Signature to fix it instead. There used to be a Diamond flight school at BKL, but I think they shut down.

Colin:

Not going to help you now, but I carry a few ring terminals and spade lugs in my on-board tool kit. I once had a wire to the alternator break off the ring terminal on the road. Discovered on startup after refueling and no charging. There was no mechanic (or even an open FBO) at the isolated West TX airfield (fuel was on the honor system - you fueled, then left your name, address, and amount pumped under the FBO door and they sent you a bill later!). Anyway, I (I mean the hangar fairy) was able to temporarily crimp on a new terminal and proceed on my trip.

Hopefully this doesn't delay your trip too much...

Don't you have a whole other engine to get you out of there? Seriously, I'm sorry I can't help but if you are going to pick an airport to be AOG, that's one of my favorites.

Sorry to hear of your wire woe. I wonder if a local store can help you with connectors. There’s a great ww2 submarine just west of BKL you can walk to. Not sure if you can get on board right now with Cvid but it’s worth it if you can. Still worth a walk if you’re there anyway

The Rock and roll Hall of Fame was open, but we didn't go. The submarine was there, but sure did not look like they were accepting visitors.

CAM145.com took care of it in the morning and I think it was fixed before 9am. Great job. No idea what the cost is yet.
