G1000 flight log analysis

Post by austropilot »

Hi all,
if anyone is interested in replaying their flights and analysis of all parameters (takeoff/landing performance vs. POH, air data, engine, fuel, cruise performance, terrain profiles, 3D view, a handy logbook of block/air times etc..) using the SD-Card logs in the MFD, please let me know here and I'll send you a link. It's not yet public but the DA40NG, DA42-VI etc... are fully supported. DA62 would be great as well!
Thanks and safe flights everyone,
Patrick

Here’s two screenshots of what you can do with the G1000 logs.
There’s much more of course such as comparing POH vs actual performance, fuel burn etc.. you name it!

I'm a big fan of FlySto and the insights the website provides to my flying.

I recently bought an SDcard-to-Lightning adapter for my iPad Mini and now am able to upload the G1000 flight data without having to take the card home or my laptop to the airport.

I've been using FlySto quite a bit as well. I really like the ability to analyze approach and landing performance. I've created a separate spreadsheet to capture several key parameters generated by FlySto to look for good (or bad) trends in my approaches and landings.

so, some UI feedback. I'm picky about ui. I looked at the example log and for the 2d map:
-- can't drag around at all? is there some hotkey? I tried holding space.
-- both mouse buttons zoom (including middle)
-- scroll wheel doesn't zoom, it moves the map up and down (?)
-- if you accidentally zoom way in trying to scroll around, arbitrarily clicking the "Entire Flight" button doesn't reframe. In fact the only way I could find to reframe was to select departure/arrival and select entire flight again.

the 3d map is super awkward to navigate with a mouse also. It's super easy to get "lost". 3d controls are pretty notorious to get right though. However the "sticky" point on the ground is brutal - you get super different scroll speeds vertical/horizontal, and it also ends up zooming (?). And of course the mouse wheel must zoom in 3d. I've been working in 3d my entire career and I legit can't maneuver this camera back to the flight path, even with the help icon guide (left click isn't panning, it's also zooming).

the cockpit view is pretty badass.

is there a climb rate per nm graph? The altitude graph vs the book climb rates is pretty neat.

actually that takeoff performance graph is super cool. It'd be sweet to have that go straight in to a departure procedure.

I'm sure you're already thinking about aligning routes and procedures on the maps.

Neat stuff!!

Patrick this is really cool. I appreciate how the cockpit view interpolates between the snapshots. Perhaps changing the interpolation algorithm to have smooth derivatives will make this interpolation less jerky.

Again, how can i give you money for this!!! its great!

That’s a great idea.

Have you tried connecting to a wifi sd card to download the logs?
