Not permitted to perform a search

Post by hcordido »

Hi,
I tried to perform a search for a topic in the DA40 forum, and I received a message telling that I am not permitted to do a search.
Is that right?

Regards,

Yeah. Search features are disabled for members who have never posted. Now you have posted, now it works :D. Nevertheless, the board´s search function is very weak and I use google with a search string like the following:

Code: Select all

inurl:diamondaviators.net whatever_i_am_searching_for
This query will resturn search results for pages which include "diamondaviators.net" in their URL and "whatever_i_am_searching_for" in the text

Kai, I remember the conversations from a few years ago about this, and it seemed like a good idea at the time, but given that you can search anyway from Google, and that this same thread seems to keep appearing over and over again, maybe it is time to consider removing this restriction? At this point, does it serve any useful purpose, or is it just creating confusion?

It is just creating confusion, Rick. :) Will change that.

Everyone can perform a search now. No restrictions. Sorry for the confusion.

One more thing: there was a useful purpose. The search function creates quite a bit of server load as the phpbb forum software is weak at this point. But hey! .... it is not worth creating so much confusion. I might try to replace the phpbb forum search by a google search module. Google search is so much more powerful.

Well, now it is unrestricted for registered users. So I have some more time to think about it.

I figured there must have been a purpose, I just couldn't remember what it was! Thanks for looking out for us users, Kai - that's one of the things that makes this forum so great! :-D
