Fire retardant paint
Anyone have experience with replacing the fire retardant paint inside the cowl? What to use, where to get it, and how to get the old stuff off?

Re: Fire retardant paint
Replacing the fire-paint is a bit of an involved process, and is not a single application. All the materials required to do the job are listed in the Maintenance Manual in Chapter 51, page 13. The supplier is PRC-Desoto International, Hamburg, Germany. I think your best bet would be to contact Frank or Jeff at customer support in London, Ontario for further information. I hope this helps a bit! Regards, D-13

Alex, I talked to Frank, I think the material you need may have changed, Frank ships it out all the time, so talk to him. Regards, D13

Re: Fire retardant paint
Alex, the MM is correct, although there are several options listed. The ones to order are as follows (stocked-London, Ontario):
1. white base PPG Industries p/n N56582/T508 (no hardener required)
2. clear-coat top PPG Industries p/n 9008B0900D
3. clear-coat hardener p/n 9008B
I hope this helps, and these are all numbers I have verified for you............D-13

Re: Fire retardant paint
I just had this done at a Diamond Service Center, and it was expensive! About $500. I had not really thought about doing it myself, but I probably should have.

Re: Fire retardant paint
Has anyone had recent success applying this paint? I had it done in August, but some of the paint is already bubbling off the interior of the cowling again. I'm trying to figure out if it was applied incorrectly, or if something about the paint formulation is different now compared to what was originally applied at the factory.

Re: Fire retardant paint
A few years ago I obtained some of the fire retardant paint from Diamond. I think it cost about $125 for a liter.

Re: Fire retardant paint
Has anyone had the paint applied, or done it themselves? I'm thinking of ordering some and trying to paint it on.

Re: Fire retardant paint
Was looking to see if someone had an update to this topic. This is an issue with my DA-20 and was looking to figure out the pro/cons/costs of a Service Center fix over going local.
