FPL WPT LOCK

Post by Wall-e »

The subject message just recently started appearing in the ALERTS window on the PFD. It is accompanied by the "MFD needs service" message that has been appearing for several months. Anyone know what is causing this?

I found this in the G1000 Pilot's Guide:

FPL WPT LOCK – Flight plan waypoint is locked.
Upon power-up, the G1000 system detects that a stored flight plan waypoint is locked. This occurs when an navigation database update eliminates an obsolete waypoint. The flight plan cannot find the specified waypoint and flags this message. This can also occur with user waypoints in a flight plan that is deleted. Remove the waypoint from the flight plan if it no longer exists in any database, OR update the waypoint name/identifier to reflect the new information.

I got this message several times because I had the Rialto airport in my dozen navigation points to get me to Las Vegas or Palm Springs from Santa Monica. They closed the airport and the G1000 started kicking that error. Interestingly, when I realized the issue I was navigating through the pass to the desert and talking to Joshua approach to so I said, "Hey, is the Rialto airport closed?" the controller said he didn't think so but he'd check. He came back very puzzled and said, "I guess it is."
