Tachometer going crazy

Post by katanajer »

just got my DA20 serviced. they said my Tachometer is going crazy. I put the aircraft on idle and the RPMs shot up past redline, however the engine runs at idle and runs normal.

I was told it might be the tach unit or the cable. anyone got part numbers for these? I cant find it in the parts list.

thanks

I had the tachometer replaced on my DA20-C1 1999 as part of the prepurchase inspection as its readings were out of the allowable tolerance as per the maintenance manual.

Part number: SL1010-55003-13-N00
Other data applicable: FAA TSO C49b & SAE AS 404B
Manufactured by Superior Labs inc., Hot Springs, Arkansas. Cage Code 0YU27

A small point, but important, ensure the cable fitting is not too tight on either end, if over-tightened, tachometer will give erratic readings....

Superior Labs also supplies the mechanical tach for the A1. Cable too if I recall correctly. They should be able to rebuild your tach if you have time. I would call them as they are pretty responsive. At least they were years ago when we replaced our tach for a similar failure.

If you replace the cable, you'll also need the two part PRC Desoto high temp polysulfide sealant for the firewall pass through.

It's not a difficult job, just not inexpensive.
