Hi all, first post for me. Own a DA20A1 80hp 912F. Ten years of great flying. Love to upgrade to 100hp but no turbos or anything else. Even the new iS engine seems too heavy. Be happy with the regular 912S complete with the bings that have caused me no grief. Has anyone done this “simple” upgrade? Any traps ? Cheers. Jeff. Australia.

Hi Jeff - Diamond Canada used to do conversions at an approved shop in London, Ontario. I inquired about the conversion and got the name of the shop, I don't think they will do the conversion anymore. If we could get Diamond Canada to release their "drawing", it would make field approval a lot easier. In Europe, they do 100hp (912S3) upgrades under a field approval. Just need an A&P signoff. I am based in the US and contacted my local FAA fsdo. They are willing to work with me on a field approval for the 912iSC3 engine conversion. I imagine the 912S3 conversion would be easier with them. I think though once you add up all the costs, the 912iSC engine would be the way to go. It is probably $5k-10k more, but worth it. You should contact your local CASA people and see what they think. -John
