JohnE wrote:Sweet. Thanks for the update and info. Do you know if they had to remove the fuel tank to do it? I'm still waiting to receive my gps unit to arrive so still have some time. I would think the wing tip option would be way too much work.

What is the flush mount option btw?

There was no need to remove the fuel tank. And I purchased the flush install kit from steinair. You will need to cut the panel to size.

When I unboxed the G5's they were awfully small and I had my doubts about them.. Once installed and flown they are the right size. Easy to read, even from the RH seat. I'll attach a shot of them on. If you can read your steam gauge instruments then you will have no issues with reading the G5.

I will try to mount it a bit higher on my other DA20 to not cut through the lights panel white line on top. This might bring them off a bit from the other instruments..

As of now I would go for a Garmin GDL 82 as an affordable adsb out solution.

Once certified, this baby will become the most affordable adsb out solution as it will be presumably competitively priced with the Garmin but will also be installed in minutes, thereby saving lots of money in labour:

Can you post the total hours and installation cost?

Someone suggested that the Aspen 1000 pfd installed would be very close to the cost of 2 G5s with HSI. The Aspen has synthetic vision. Ralphie had the Aspen installed in his da20.

28 hours for installation. Cost depends on what they charge you per hour.

Can you tell me what avionics you linked the G5's to? 430, 530, 650, etc. I'm looking to interface mine with a GTN650 but am wondering if I will need to also purchase the GAD 29 unit to get vnav, etc on the DG. It's unclear if the RS232 data from the 650 would cover this or not. It does seem like the GAD 29 is required for autopilot, but I don't have one. Thanks again. John

I have it interfaced with a GNS430 non-waas and it required the GAD29B and GMU11. I don't know the details of how they are connected as I had someone do the work.

Here is a single G5 installation. Dual maybe later. There was no real $$ penalty for breaking up the install work. Size and readability of the G5 is outstanding - my previous eHSI being a Sandel 3308 had an itty bitty projection screen basically unreadable. Has the GAD29B interface to a STEC-30 autopilot so the GPSS mode provides a much improved ability to fly a flight plan (the purple line) with waypoint turn anticipation. Picture shows the GPS CDI - the VOR and CDI modes are equally clean and readable.
