This happened to our DA20-A1 prior to us buying the airplane many years ago. The welded stud that is attached to the strut fractured and (unknown to the pilot at the time) the nose fork and nose wheel remained on the runway after takeoff. The pilot noticed something amiss when he landed back at his home field.

Fortunately with the overload gearbox and the composite Hoffman prop - the engine suffered no damage and only a gearbox inspection was required. Of course the prop was overhauled and blades replaced. We bought the airplane shortly after it was repaired, flew it for almost 10 years and then donated it to the High School near the airport where it used to be based.
