Sorry owner was in a rush so I had to hurry with the tire change so no pics this time :( Other then not having metric tools on hand, I did manage to find some from a mech on the field. Tire changed with no issue, 3 take off and landings followed :)

No worries. I got my local guy to help me do mine today as well. It was easy. Next time I could do it myself no prob. I could easily do it in an hour but both of us did the whole job in 30 min. Having all the tools handy makes a job like that very easy.

nice! Did you jack up jst one side using the jack point on the wing? How did you compensate for the tail dropping? I had the owner hold on the spinner while I did the work. Start to finish was about a 30 mins

Yes, we just jacked one wing enough to clear the ground. Didnt have to hold anything. Plane was stable.

Interesting, I had full tanks when I jacked it up so maybe that was a reason the tail wanted to sit down? I am just glad the plane is back up so we can fly more! Such a nice flyer

Have to agree there. Great plane to fly.

My tanks were topped off as well. I have the 40s if that helps.

All I noticed on the non jacked side was the wing dropped a little.
Plane was completly empty in the rear storage compartments.

we have long range tanks, and there was stuff in the back. so next time just make sure rear end is empty and maybe will not be a issue. I suppose. Now update the database and in the clouds we go lol.

Well that makes sense. Even flat on the ground it's very easy to push down on the tail, lifting the nose off and turn the plane around. Jacking one side 50 gallons and stuff in the rear. With that out and half full, no worries.

I'm taking the family on their first 480 mile trip to Denver this weekend.

Happy flying.

Re: DIY - Replacing Main Tire and Tube

Thanks again for your great DIY thread!

I am starting to think about replacing my tires, and ran across an excellent reference by Goodyear on "Aircraft Tire Care & Maintenance." I found this an interesting read, and now have a much better understanding of the differences between aviation and automotive tires.

Link: http://www.goodyearaviation.com/resourc ... e_Care.pdf

This PDF also includes the first authoritative and rational explanation I've seen for why tubes should be replaced at the same time as tires:
"A new tube should be used when installing a new tire. Tubes grow in service, taking a permanent set
of about 25% larger than the original size. This makes a used tube too large to use in a new tire, which
could cause a wrinkle and lead to tube failure.
"

Got a flat tire.
I left the plane in the hangar last week after returning from Blois. Thursday, the left tire was completely flat. I jacked the left wing to prevent tire crush.
I have everything I need to replace the tube, except Loctite.
Is this a user authorised maintenance ?
