Yeah, ATC and airway infrastructure isn't really ready for "Direct" in long-distance cases. I have two routes I commonly fly that I'll file Direct. But the airports are pretty close and one is just going to be 100% vectors anyway (Direct is actually never going to happen between KPAE-KPLU )

This is my next learning curve. I fly into Dallas a lot and I expect it to take longer than VFR direct. But it will be nice to know what to expect when its real IMC.

That depends. Doesn't hurt to file direct thoughRich wrote:Yeah, ATC and airway infrastructure isn't really ready for "Direct" in long-distance cases. Going anywhere but South of Orlando from my present location direct works ok
PS Looked up your location - duh, you've got terrain and things.

Congrats on your new plane. It's really a perfect platform to learn IFR in. I really enjoyed it and look forward to all the learning I need to do to get even better and more comfortable in the system.

Oh yeah? Yesterday I got this when flying from the Washington, DC area to New York's Long Island:Charles wrote:Wow, you guys have it easy. Some routings I recently got:Moonshine wrote: So far all my routing has been either direct, or direct with a VOR or an intersection to go around a hot MOA.
KMDT GRACO V93 PXT V213 HPW V260 CVI KMQI (and then that was changed twice in flight because it was a ridiculous route)
CZBA DAVSI T781 TIGET MIGLO REEDO TALNO NAPEE CYHU
KJYO STILL WOOLY V214 BAL V268 ENO LEEAH V229 PANZE V184 ZIGGI KFRG
Originally they had me flying V16 right over the top of New York's JFK airport, but they changed it to the above half-way through the flight ("Got a new clearance, you ready to copy?"), and then I got vectored about 20 miles off-shore at 3000 feet. It was nice to be flying a twin.
Congrats Gasser!
