Steve. Somehow this reminded me of a test drive I once took in a Lotus Europa. Visibility sucked and partly it was because it was sooo low to the ground. I had an MGB at the time and thought that was low. Also no luggage space to speak of and inferior to the MG in that regard, also.

I've stuffed all kinds of things in my DA40 extended baggage area in addition to having 4 people aboard.

Sounds like this would be hard to accomplish.

It’s all about how much those baggage’s weight. There’s a limit to how much people weight, but baggage weight can be very iffy. And the total weight for the compartment is 100# if j remember correctly.

It's volume in this case. That pile you see is actually bigger than it looks, mostly clothing. There's a big black duffel mostly hidden behind the others. The extended baggage area was chuck full.

Episode 171 of Max Trescott's Aviation News-Talk podcast discusses the Panthera.
https://aviationnewstalk.com/podcast/17 ... a-ga-news/

Summary
Max sat in the new Pipistrel Panthera and talked with Andy Chan of Right Rudder Aviation, the U.S. distributor, about this exciting new aircraft. Pricing is $639K experimental, $672K certified. The Panthera is a fast, retractable landing gear aircraft that compares favorably with the Cirrus SR22. It has a useful load of 1100 pounds and can fly over 1,000 nautical miles.

The company in Europe just severed their relationship with the Pipistrel US company (which had just financed the booth at Oshkosh). I have no idea what this means, but it definitely doesn't make it seem like it will be smooth sailing for US customers interested in the plane.

Colin, do you have a link to the source of that information?

The Pipistrel dealer for the US is based at my home field. I talked to the owner yesterday. Their second or third Panthera just sold and flew away. He said they have another one coming in two weeks.

I saw the plane at OSH and the price is now over 700k for the certified version. Even so, I damn near wrote a check for the deposit because it's just a sexy beast. Having said that ... sanity prevailed (or insanity maybe) and I am sticking with my DA62 order.

However, I caution about buying the non-certified versions because of the demonstration requirements. That can be a significant limitation. While I'm sure many will ignore those limitations, they do so with some risk. And certification will come when it comes, which is always later than people expect.

The FAA's current ruling on giving flight instruction in Experimental-Demonstration aircraft also affects the ones currently being delivered.

Easy to solve that issue with the online LODA application process. I received mine back in less than a week for our RV-7A. Needed to have a LODA so my CFII son could give me an IPC and flight review and be legal.
