is there any way to update the software version from V9.13 to V12.00 or do you need to buy the newer version? My computer is Windows 10 Pro.

I spoke with a Garmin rep about upgrading to the Version 12.00 software. He said it was sold out and discontinued. Does anyone have a disc they would part with?

Thank you for the version 12 update. For me, that was the easy part. Now, how do I get the latest databases into the program? I'm running Windows 10 pro, but have the compatibility mode set to Windows 7 per Garmin's suggestion.

Curt,

To update the supplemental databases for version 12 of the PC-based G1000 simulator on Windows 10 with the latest G1000 supplemental databases do the following:

• Download the new supplemental databases to a SD card
• Copy the following files from the <<sd card>>\ to:

C:\Users\<<YourWindowsLogin>>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Diamond DA40 Trainer v12.00\winfs_mount\

bmap.bin
safetaxi.bin
terrain.abd
terrain.obd
terrain_9as.tbd

• Restart the G1000 simulator

To update the NAV data on version 12 of the PC-based G1000 simulator on Windows 10 with the latest G1000 NAV database do the following:

• Download the new supplemental databases from the flyGarmin web site to a SD card
• Copy the <<sd card>>\ ldr_sys\avtn_db.bin file (make sure that hidden system files are displayed)
• Paste it in the following folder, overwriting the existing avtn_db.bin file that is currently located there

C:\Users\<<YourWindowsLogin>>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Diamond DA40 Trainer v12.00\winfs_mount\avtn_db.bin

• Restart the G1000 simulator

I haven't tried your helpful instructions yet, but I believe the nav_db2.bin is only required for GDU v15.00 and above, so this file should not be needed for GDU version 12 of the PC-based G1000 simulator -- which still uses only the original avtn_db.bin format. It probably won't hurt anything if this file is included, though.

(I learned this the hard way years ago when I installed the real G1000 GDU Version 15 software in my DA42-VI and couldn't get it to load NavData -- only to find that Garmin had created a new larger nav2_db.bin database that's *REQUIRED* for GDU 15.

Addendum: I just looked at the files on the SDCard I use for loading all the Garmin databases into my G1000 NXi DA62, and apparently I'm screwed because Garmin ONLY gives me the larger nav_db2.bin NavData file and NOT the avtn_db.bin NavData file needed by GDU v12. Looks like l need a Legacy G1000 database subscription to update the files on the GDU v12 PC G1000 Simulator.

It's really too bad that Garmin never produced any PC Simulators for G1000 NXi. :(

Ok, guess I'm dumber than I thought. When I downloaded the latest Garmin database files, the only thing I see on the SD card is

fc_tcp
ldr_sys
.evidf.dat

I checked on the box to show hidden files, but this is all I saw. Under the fc_tcp is has a folder named Charts. Inside there is just that, files that look like chart names. The ldr_sys folder doesn't show anything when I click on it, but the properties shows there are 11 mb of data.

Any ideas or directions?

Curt: On a Mac all you do is hit Command-Shift-. (dot) to make all the hidden invisible files on your SDCard suddenly appear/disappear. I leave it to the Windows folks to tell you how to achieve this on a PC.
