FWIW, according to the manufacturer, purple Loctite is recommended for any fastener < 6 mm (1/4 inch). That covers the vast majority of the fasteners in our aircraft.

I guess. Years ago 242 (blue) was what Diamond recommended and it's always worked fine. The screws never come loose yet are readily removed.

Like Rich, I use the blue Loctite. No problems since using it. I did have to repair an elongated hole in the nose wheel fairing with epoxy due to the one time it loosened (pre-Loctite). I added the tow bar hole protectors:

about a year ago, and that replaced the bolts with allen head cap screws that are safety wired, so those 4 never will loosen up...

Just finished my annual, good experience. My neighbor (A&P) and I spent saturday and half a day sunday taking it apart and reassembling. It really helped me understand more of the inner workings of this aircraft. Also noticed the previous mechanic didn't perform all the required inspections.

Earlier in this post, I mentioned trying a K&N air filter, RX4125-1. This was a mistake. While the air filter has a lot more surface area, the overall length wouldn't allow it to fit. I'll need to order the JR filter, since my current one has a crack in the flange area.

Thank you again for those of you who posted helpful information.

I was going to place an order with “Mr. Metric” for the following screws and washers (pulled from various postings) to have on hand for my next annual.

Any nuts I should be ordering?

I ordered the following nuts a year ago, to complement my previous order (which looked very similar to yours!):

M50355 4 M10X1.5 Nylon Insert Locknut Stainless Steel A2 DIN985
M50356 10 M12X1.75 Nylon Insert Locknut Stainless Steel A2 DIN985
M50637 10 M6X1.0 Nylock Nut Stainless Steel A4 DIN985
M50354 10 M8X1.25 Nylon Insert Locknut Stainless Steel A2 DIN985
M50351 10 M4X.7 Nylon Insert Locknut Stainless Steel A2 DIN985
M50352 10 M5X.8 Nylon Insert Locknut Stainless Steel A2 DIN985

This will add about $13 to your order, and you'll have replacements for all the metric nuts on your DA40!

For the screws that just hold fairings and inspection plates and other non-structural items, metric or US, I've been able to get what I need at my local Ace Hardware, even here in teeny-tiny Prineville, OR.

I'm looking to replace the screws and washers on the landing/taxi light cover. The parts manual says they are DIN963A-M4X12-A2. I went to Mr. Metric but the only ones they had that met this specification were 10 length rather than 12 (assuming I'm reading the code correctly.) Has anyone else replaced these screws? Thanks. That time of year again, this time, I need to replace the battery packs. Does anyone have the numbers and a good place to buy them? Are there any tricks to replacing them?
