Dynamic propeller balancing

Anyone doing this when purchasing a plane or as part of an annual - and are most mechanics competent to add counterbalance if necessary?

Re: Dynamic propeller balancing
Dynamic balancing requires special equipment you won't find in most shops. The last time I had this done IIRC I was charged $250.

Makes me want to go check out the total vibration in the airplane, perhaps using one of these: https://www.motioncontroltips.com/app-t ... ent-tools/

Dynamic balancing = biggest bang for the buck you will ever get. Once you have seen it done, if you watch the process, you will kick yourself in the ass for not having it done sooner. Having dynamic balancing done is a no brainier.

Agreed, without a doubt.Tommy wrote:Dynamic balancing = biggest bang for the buck you will ever get. Once you have seen it done, if you watch the process, you will kick yourself in the ass for not having it done sooner. Having dynamic balancing done is a no brainier.
But make sure the guys doing it are trained, would be very easy to screw it up.

Re: Dynamic propeller balancing
Anyone know anyone in SoCal who does this sort of thing? Is it required to be done by a prop shop (of which there are few)?
Thanks much

Re: Dynamic propeller balancing
It is a special process. It was an all day process on my twin. You have to have the equipment and training to do this.

Re: Dynamic propeller balancing
Yes, I do prop balancing. My three blade MT prop has a mandatory service requirement, so I had it balanced during the service.

Santa Monica Propeller did mine a decade ago. It made a huge difference.
