Good topic. Most of my G1000/KAP140 time is in Cessna 182's although my current 2004 DA40 has a similar configuration. Cessna provides much more detailed information then I could find in the AFM and supplements with my DA40. In short, the KAP140 will not fly the course reversal as far as I can tell. When the G1000 came out, Garmin was still developing the GFC700 which is fully integrated with the G1000 and does wonderous things. However, manufacturers wanted to get the G1000 out there and so coupled it with either a KAP140 in the case of Cessna and Diamond and I believe the Cirrus had an STEC installed with it. As a consequence with these installations, the autopilot can't take all of the navigation guidance the G1000 will provide (perhaps there is some interface or GPSS in later models that makes this possible that I am unaware of).

When I reviewed my KAP140 manual and looked at GPS approaches it only refers to KIng GPS's but in any case, it talks about commanding the turns with either a DG or HSI in HDG mode. At the link are some pages from the Cessna NAV III AFM that goes into detail about flying course reversals and holding procedures and you can see there they state the KAP140 won't fly them.

Just my 2 cents, probably not worth that much! :)

This may or may not be applicable to the G1000 but with the Aspen replacing the KCS 55A, my KAP 140 will now accept GPSS commands originating from the GNS 530W and fly published DME arcs and holds by simply putting the AP in HDG mode. I haven't yet tried a procedure turn (not many around here) but I presume it will do that as well.
