oil change

Post by TJS »

Who does their own oil changes and at what frequency. 50hrs is the norm but I have a notion to do mine every 25 to 30 hrs. It seems to me that the oil looks much dirtier at around 25hrs and starts to burn much quicker after that as well.
Logic tells me that that this would be the ideal time to do an oil change. I was thinking of doing my own change at the midpoint and letting my shop do the 50hr.
looking for opinions.

Depends on how much you fly. I change the oil and filter, and do oil analysis every 25 hours. That is about every 4-5 months for my usage.

I've developed a new strategy: I change it when it has drifted down below 6 qts. Takes about 23-24 hours these days.

I change mine between 25 and 30 hours. And I do an oil analysis every time - it's cheap insurance.

I change mine every 6 months or 50 hrs, whichever comes first. Does anyone else change oil based on calendar time?

I do mine ever 30-40 hours with sending in an oil sample.

I do mine every 25-30 hours or four months, whichever comes first. I do oil analysis each time.
