Rubber for air intake or glareshield

Post by astaib »

Hello,

Do you know where I can buy the rubber for the air intakes or the glareshield?

I’m talking about the U-profil rubber with metallic ribs embedded inside.

I've wondered about that myself. That stuff is used for the combustion air, oil cooler and engine cooling intakes. Mine is definitely showing some wear.

Go to your auto supply shop. This is standard stuff as trunk or door seal. Bring your piece in and match it up.

Where do you have this on your glarwshield? I don’t have anything like that on mine so I’m wondering if I’m missing something.

Hello,

It is under the glareshield, it is to seal the area betwwen the glareshield and the top of the panel.

The seal is mounted on a plastic "rail".

If you want I can make you a picture of this area.

Arnaud.

I see it now. Thanks. The rubber piece I have there is much thinner and smaller than the seal I have around the intakes. Or maybe what I have is the rail you are referring to. It looks more like it’s decorative trim versus a seal. I wonder if putting a heavier strip on their would reduce some if my dashes vibration noise.

Yes, this one is thinner than the one of the air intake.

This one is not « touching » everywhere.
So far, I have no vibration.

I do not have that on my DA42 and it was not on our DA40. On several occasions my mechanic has put a piece following the front (forward) edge of the shield, since sometimes the light leak bothers me. I wonder if the application you have is better for defrosting.
