Hi
Does anyone running a DA40-180 on UL91?
According Lycoming and EASA it should be possible, but Diamond was not able to make a clear statement...
Do you have experiance using UL91 fuel?
Best regards,
Juerg

Juerg,
search this forum for "Mogas" and you will find some replies for the carbureted engines. For injected 0-360 engines, I would think you encounter vapor lock issues.

I have been operating a DA40-180 on UL91 for a couple of years, and it works like a dream. For an EASA registered aircraft, you will need to comply with "CS-SC202b — Use of Avgas UL 91", but this is something you can do yourself as a pilot-owner, please see CS-STAN, which can be downloaded here:

Re: DA40-180 on UL91
Cessna just announced 3 more aircraft that are approved for UL91 https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/ces ... ree-models . Is anyone aware of plans to allow that on the DA40 in the US? Textron allows pretty much any leaded or unleaded fuel for the IO-360-M series engine. https://www.lycoming.com/sites/default/ ... 0Fuels.pdf

I remember the Diamond press release that said all of their avgas burning aircraft would be certified to run on unleaded mogas. Like the DA40 winglets, another broken promise.

Re: DA40-180 on UL91
In the US this is an academic issue. Almost no airports carry any gasoline other than 100LL. Here and there you might see mogas or 94UL available and the next time you look it's gone. It's a significant expense to carry multiple fuel types. This is why there is 100LL. It was to remove the demand to carry both 80/87 and 100/130 (and sometimes 91/96). The IO-360-M1A is itself certified for 91/96. But it's unobtainium anyway.
