Panel update with iPad.

Post by astaib »

Hello,

I just bought an airgizmos mount for my 10.5” iPad Pro. And I’m looking for the best solution to install it on the panel.

I’m curently using a ram with a fixed mount on the panel, but it is ugly and not very nice because it hides a bit some instrument and it is sensible when get in or out of the plane.

The ideal place will be in the center, but it implies of moving up the audio panel, remove the gns430 (non waas) remove my vhf2 (old fashioned because it isn’t in 8.33 spacing).
And buy a new vhf like Garmin 255 to have a radio and the VOR/ILS. Install this new radio above the squawk (already in place) close to the flap command.

What do you think about removing the GNS 430 to make this installation? Is it an equipment that I should keep.

It will cost me money (new radio), but this is the only way to have a decent integration of the iPad on the panel.

Any advice are welcome!

Thanks.

Arnaud.

I don't know about other countries, but not having an IFR-certified GPS (WAAS or not) in the US would be a serious downgrade of IFR capabilities.

Arnaud could you post a photo of your panel? Also explain the IFR-certification of your aircraft? To the best of my knowledge the DA40 is IFR certified if adequately equipped and removing the 430 without replacing it would make you lose this.

Hi Colin,

I think yes, but I'm not IFR pilot and my plane is not IFR certified.

Hi Antoine,

Please find below a picture of the panel of my airplane.

The certification need some additionnal certification on the equipment, second battery, special item in the kardex for replacement of parts etc...

I manage myself the airworthiness because the DA40 is in ELA1 category that allows me to decide which item I want to respect based on calendar / recommedation of Diamond and which item I want to inspect and eventually replace "on condition".
Exemple: Rudder cable: x years is not in Stainless Steel, I switch to "on condition" inspection... In this exemple, if you want to be IFR certified, you have to respect all the item of the kardex on the basis of Diamond and EASA bases.
