Grease coming from Hartzell Prop
I just had an annual in December. now when I fly I get grease spotting on the cowl, back of prop and spots on windscreen. Called mechanic and he said might be grease not oil... In fact it is grease,,, but wasn't there before the annual. What can I do.... I was going to take it to Lancaster and have them check and see if too much grease was put in or did it bust my seals. Thoughts.

Lee: I had a similar experience back when I owned a Lycoming DA40: yellow-ish grease spots all over the cowling and windscreen coming from the prop. It required removal of the prop by my local shop, which trucked the prop to Lancaster for overhaul. The difference was that it was a 3-bladed MT instead of your two-blade Hartzell (2-blade props are much easier to ship).

Dave,,, It just started after annual in December. Could they have over greased it and the excess is coming out of the seals? Might just fly it up to Lancaster and have them have a look see.

Just called plane care... he thinks it might be over greased and suggested that I hold off a bit since it has only 380 hours since new.

Re: Grease coming from Hartzell Prop
I had this happen on a Hartzell.. It’s either the seal or the hub typically.. If it was just overserviced with grease it would stop after a flight or two.. Such a PITA!
