Nose leg fairing
Hello,
I have a question about the nose leg fairing that we can see on some da40 (the ng maybe). Mine is like this Is there a benefit on the speed?
Is it adaptable to an old bird like mine?
Maybe it is very expensive for only a little advantage.
Thank you for your feedback.
Arnaud.

Re: Nose leg fairing
Some have retrofit the "speed gear" fairing on the nose gear, but I don't recall the net improvement. I'm pretty sure the NG fairing won't fit our older ones, though.

I have a 2002 that I put the fairing on. It fit just fine. Check out eBay. There is one for sale now. I swear it added a few knots.

I cannot see it on eBay. What’s the price?
Is it just plug and play installation ?
Thanks.

Re: Nose leg fairing
Here is the nose gear fairing you want. On one of my previous DA-40's, a 2004, I added one that I purchased direct from the factory. It is a clam shell design and if I recall correctly, we had to drill two holes to attach it to the nose gear assembly. It took just a few minutes to install. I do think it added a knot or two.

Re: Nose leg fairing
Just for grins I put in a bid ($300) for this one on eBay and it was instantly rejected. I figure this is what it'd be worth to me for what sounds like maybe a couple of knots. Plus it has some damage to be dealt with, so the $1,000 (when you add in shipping) seemed like a lot.
Then I got curious about the plane it came from and looked up the accident:

It's a pretty interesting read (15,000 hour ATP flying it). If you follow the links in the report you'll see some more data the NTSB gathered about it, including a couple of photos of the damage the plane suffered. As an epilogue, the accident airport is an airport no more. It is being developed as a commercial property.
I'd apologize for the thread drift, but you knew it would happen

Re: Nose leg fairing
Everything the guy is selling on eBay is a rip-off. I’m not sure where he gets his pricing from.
