Camloc on the cowling

Post by astaib »

Hello,

Can you tell me if the camloc that hold the boas are the same as the one as the one that hold cowling itself ?
Mine looks dead but I don’t know what it looks like when new and also the ipc is not clear.

All of the Camloc fasteners on the cowlings are the same series (except for the oil door and electrical jump panel). They do have various lengths to allow fitting on different thickness panels. To me, it appears that you have lost the Camloc collar and spring ring (P/N:4002-N-3 and R4G-2).

Thanks Steve, it seems that 40s5-7d and r4g2 are obsolete and that 4002 n3 is not rohs compliant for Europe.

Do you have an idea of what I can do?!!

Look at the 4002 series Camloc fasteners at Aircraft Spruce. As for the rohs compliance, I don't think that the Hangar Fairy that will install it cares...

I already checked at Spruce and only the 4002N3 can be found the 2 other ones are not in the catalog.
I will send them and email.

That will probably work. I believe that the part numbers for Camloc have changed, the parts are still available. If you can't find them, I think I may have a few kicking around the parts bin in the hangar. Let me know...

Hi Steve,

Thank you very much! I will wait for the feedback of Spruce and I will let you know.

Do you know if it's hard to "install"?

Arnaud.

There is a snap ring installation tool:

https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/ ... ctools.php

Since you are installing only one, I doubt that it would be worth the cost. Probably can do it with a pair of needle-nosed pliers.

OK, got it.

I'm thinking about changing all of them for aesthetic purpose (the one in place are 18 years old and get corrosion), in this case I need the tool.
But I'm not yet sur to change only the one defective or all of them :).

My Mechanic told me that it is difficult to install...

You need a larger area grommet. Your fiberglass hole has opened up.

Call this company and they will get you what you need. They are in Florida.
