MTOW/MLW experience

Post by Rich »

I've been asked about details of getting this done, so I thought I'd put out the invoice from 4/2016 when the mod was made, along with comments:
MTOW-MLW Invoice.jpg
This was performed by a Diamond SC, who ordered all the parts and performed the work. There are 2 OSB's involved. So this was to do both. The parts prices were as of 2016:

Parts, freight, tool rental etc. came to right at $5,000.00
There was 14 hours labor involved @95.00: $1,330.00
Notes:
- The labor included reweighing the airplane for empty weight/CG. The reweighing was bungled by the shop and I had it redone elsewhere.
- The shop had to fabricate a replacement for the maneuvering speed placard, as there is a section with increased speed at higher weights. Diamond provided a part with this placard, but it was on that left panel compatible with G1000-equipped Stars, not for mine.
- They also reprinted the AFM, as the original one did not cover things like the additional W&B and performance numbers for the higher weight, minimum fuel weight and so forth. They charged another hour to do this. A bit trickier than you might think, given the metric-size dimensions of the physical AFM.
- Ignore the Carbon fabric entry, that was for the unrelated Rear Spar carry-through reinforcement AD, done at the same time.

BTW, this was to install the thinner, 18mm legs, not the longer ones.

Rich I wonder what those prices would be today. Below are the prices for the taller landing gear which get installed the middle of the month (at KRDM). BTW - I'm changing because of the type of fields I operate on and because the current 18mm legs are slightly bent. I suspect they can be straightened, so if someone needs them.... I purchased the parts direct from Diamond. Wonder if they would have been cheaper if purchased from a service center.

Brock (and everyone else, for that matter), be aware that Seattle Center has recently designated an embedded sector (roughly rectangular) encompassing the Madras, Redmond, Bend, Sunriver airports and East beyond Prineville. Frequency is 126.15. It doesn't show on the charts, but does appear on chart supplements and procedure plates for the affected airports. If you file IFR or use flight following coming down here you'll get handed off to this frequency. But if not you should at least monitor it. We have a problematic mix of training, airline traffic, skydiving, and casual flights in, out, and flying by the various airports and using several practice areas. ADS-B is your friend here.

To add to the fun, numerous students of Hillsboro Aviation flying out of Redmond and using other airports in the area are less than fluent in English.

Sorry for the thread drift.

Note the difference in the parts lists between the two options. An interesting contrast.

It might be that I got a bit of a discount on the parts. This shop has sometimes done this for me when I ordered parts through them.
