Installing an ADS-B GTX-45R with Avidyne TAS 600 Traffic
I have an appointment to have the Garmin GTX-45R installed in my 2010 Diamond Star this upcoming November. The Garmin dealer/installer has already installed two of the GTX-45R's in G1000 Diamond Stars, but neither were equipped with the Avidyne TAS 600''s Active traffic so this will be his first install. Does any member's know of any "Got You's" or installation problems when installing to two together that I can pass on to the installer?

Re: Installing an ADS-B GTX-45R with Avidyne TAS 600 Traffic
I had the GTX 345-R installed in my 2008 DA40 XLS (with G1000 and Avidyne TAS 600) by Advantage Aviation, Chino CA in Sept-2017.
All works quite fine, including ADS-B and TAS traffic displayed on the MFD.
The only complaint I have has nothing to do with the 345-R or TAS... but rather the lack of a number of standard ADS-B data items (e.g. TAF, Cloud Tops, etc)... and this I understand is because of the out of date G1000 software version (a well-known Diamond/Garmin certification issue).
Best regards,
Wayne

Re: Installing an ADS-B GTX-45R with Avidyne TAS 600 Traffic
I've not heard of any other Diamonds where having the GTX 345 and TAS 600 together has been a problem, but it has never worked in my plane (2007 XL). I can have traffic from one or the other, but not both. Unfortunately, they haven't been able to work out the root cause yet (they want the plane and me for about a week to do testing with Garmin, something I might not be able to do until I retire ).
My avionics guy said he was aware of two others (not Diamonds) that had the same issue, but other than those, I'm not aware of anyone else with this problem. Maybe it's a Southern Hemisphere thing...

Interesting. Working from memory, the traffic target deduplication happens inside of the GTX345 where the TAS output is input into the GTX before the G1000 ever "sees" it. Assuming my memory is correct, you shouldn't be able to select between the traffic systems as the G1000 only has the output from the GTX as its input.

For the record, my 2007 XL GTX345R is linked with the TAS 600 and I’m one of the lucky ones where I can get the GTX’s bluetooth signal in the front seat without the antenna special. (Have you seen that thread?) All this was done before I took possession, but I’d be happy to dig through the maintenance logs for who installed it if you PM me. Also, to back up Pietromarx, there’s no toggling the traffic sources, only a toggle from ADS-B WX to XM WX.

Wait - where is this toggle? I'm in the same boat - 2007 with GTX345R and TAS600. I thought there was no ADS-B weather on the MFD due to lack of a software upgrade. Am I missing something?

Rick, I’m regretting not documenting this, because I cancelled my XM WX subscription a while ago, but when you have both ADS-B and XM there’s a way to toggle between the two weather feeds. I did it exactly once, but I don’t recall the non-obvious menu. Running 0321.23.

Re: Installing an ADS-B GTX-45R with Avidyne TAS 600 Traffic
I still have XM weather, so I'll have to look for a button or menu entry to switch to the ADS-B this weekend. I also have 321.23 but I guess I've just never looked for it since I thought it wasn't possible. It would be nice to be able to compare the two...OriensFlight wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 11:58 amRick, I’m regretting not documenting this, because I cancelled my XM WX subscription a while ago, but when you have both ADS-B and XM there’s a way to toggle between the two weather feeds. There is an easy toggle. I recently switched back to using XM weather. I think you go to the weather page on the MFD and select the menu button. I think the change is within that menu. If it’s not there it’s within the main profile settings on the MFD.

Re: Installing an ADS-B GTX-45R with Avidyne TAS 600 Traffic
I did find some older post on the subject and if I understand it correctly like Wayne states, the ADS-B traffic and the Avidyne traffic can both work at the same time. You just can not select or toggle between the two of them.
