Intermittent AHRS fail

Post by YCCA »

Just recently we started having failures of the AHRS with a Corresponding attitude and heading fail.. It will last anywhere from 30 seconds to a few minutes.. Has anyone experienced this? Wondering if it could be a connection issue or more likely the box is on its way out? Thanks in advance

It can't be a G1000 Rich, this is a DA20... maybe G500?
My experience with electronics issues is that you start by tracing the wiring and doing a cleanup of all contacts. I use a product called "Stabilant" that was purchased from a NYC sound studio (!) based upon a recommendation by a fellow forum member.
No joy, try Garmin support - they have always been very helpful and comprehensive.

Good luck...

This is posted on the DA40 forum and if memory serves, Jeffrey also flies a DA40.

Yes, 2004 so I guess it’s one of the old G1000

I have two planes. A DA-20 in the flight school and a DA-40 that I own in a partnership.. The settings only let me select one plane. Sorry for the confusion

Had similar problem some years ago.-Removed the unit from the electronics tray, and cleaned the contacts with CRC contact cleaner.-Never had a problem since.

Jeffrey, I had a similar issue with my G1000. A very helpful avionics person on the field simply took the screen off and on one of them, the connector must have been vibrating loose and hence the intermittent failures. She just unplugged the connector, then plugged it back in and made sure the connection was secure, and I never had an issue again. Good luck... hope it is this simple fix for you as well!

Often cleaning the contacts bar, checking the pins (I had five bent pins that triggered my intermittent AHRS failures), and re-seating the LRUs is all that is needed.
