Sky tec Starter Overhaul Cost
I installed a new Sky Tec starter on my DA-40 in June and still have the old one. Am considering having old one rebuilt by Sky Tec. Has anyone done this and if so were you satisfied, how long did it take and importantly what was the price tag. Thanks all.

Re: Sky tec Starter Overhaul Cost
I had mine rebuilt about ten years ago. Turnaround was 2 or 3 days (although I am in San Antonio, just down the road from their plant). I don’t remember the exact cost, but my recollection was that it was a flat fee of approximately 60% of the new cost. I have kept that one in my hangar as a spare. When I had my engine issues recently, I asked my A&P about preemptively changing it out, but with only about 350 hours on it, he advised staying with the one on the engine.
It is an easy job to switch it, maybe about 45 minutes.

Re: Sky tec Starter Overhaul Cost
Sky-Tec don't really overhaul them now, cause the cost of overhaul is similar to the price of new unit. However, they have a loyalty exchange program where you get 20-30% of the new starter price back. Call them and see if you can turn your old one in.
