Grand Canyon Overlay on G1000 moving map

Post by dwurfel »

Was flying over the grand canyon yesterday via one of the north south corridors and noticed on my G1000 map that the grand canyon flight area does not show up on the map. I did get a warning that I was approaching the airspace. I used my IPAD to plan the flight and WINGX PRo had all the
information. Does anyone know if it is possible to bring that special airspace overlay up. Thanks :bow

David,

I prepared a file to upload the VFR checkpoints for all the corridors into the G1000 and did the same with ForeFlight. I still have the file somewhere if you need it. You can load it from an SD card.

ForeFlight now shows the Grand Canyon SFRA map when you zoom in, including the GPS visual waypoints that define the endpoints of all VFR corridors. These visual waypoints, all of which have 5 letters starting with “VP”, are also included in Garmin’s NavData database in the G1000.

We flew all of the corridors in our DA62 last fall using these waypoints programmed into our G1000 flight plan. Made it easy to use the autopilot so you could admire the outside views. I also attached a GoPro camera to the tail tie down hole:

Thanks all. I was hoping it would appear on the MFD but am using my ipad now for reference. Thanks for the responses. Really appreciate it.
